Calathea Insignis - Snake Plant

| Like other Calathea's, Calathea Insignis or Snake Plant or Rattlesnake Plant loves humid conditions and requires a light but shaded position. It's striking long sword shaped leaves variegated with light and dark green stripes, backed by deep purple, will brighten up any corner of the room. Keep your Snake Plant away from air conditioning, heating, harsh sunlight and draughty areas. It doesn't deal well with sudden changes in climate. As this plant likes tropical conditions, it likes it's roots to stay moist but never soggy. Let the soil on the top of the pot dry slightly before giving a good water and let all water drain away. Misting its leaves with water and cleaning it's leaves with a damp cloth will also keep your Snake Plant looking healthy. Fertiliser should be used only in the warmer growing months and let it rest during winter. The Snake Plant is a fabulous air cleaner and also non toxic to humans and animals, making it a great choice for a house plant. |
